Our Journey

The Assembly in Proserpine was formed as a Church plant in 1955 by Ps Morrie Hughes from the Assemblies of God church in Ayr. In July of that year the current parcel of land on Philip Street was purchased and the first meeting in our own building occurred on the 24th February 1957. Since then it has had an uninterrupted and enduring Christian presence in the fabric of Proserpine and Airlie Beach life.

In 2010, under Ps John and June Keogh, the name of the Assembly was formally changed to “Liberty Church Whitsundays”. It is our firm belief that this is the mantle that has been appointed to us through the Holy Spirit, to carry freedom and healing to individuals and families in our community.
